On the right, Michael Halkias draws a card for the 50/50 Raffle from Bruce Dixon.

Each week, members buy tickets.  A ticket is drawn from a hat and the ticket holder gets to draw a card from a deck of cards.  If the Queen of Hearts is selected, half of the pot is given to the person and the rest goes to club social events.  Any other card drawn is discarded.  Eventually, the queen will be drawn since a card is eliminated each week.

Rick Quackenbush

On Feb 29, Rotarian Rick Quackenbush gave a presentation on his November trip to Africa’s most populous country, Nigeria.

In an occasionally emotional talk, Rick called it a “life-changing experience.”   The purpose of the trip was to do a needs assessment for Rotary.

On February 22, Chuck Newman and Cal Roesner gave a presentation on their mission (the previous week)  to remote Central Honduras, where they were among a team of 11 people helping to build a classroom for a small school in an ongoing international project to renovate and build schools in that hard-pressed country.

This summer, from July 12-19, the group will start construction on a new primary school, and Sunrise members were invited to make the trip. They expect to have 50 people from the US and Canada, and they hope to have at least 20 volunteers from Naperville. The “noon” club and the Sunrise club have partnered to sponsor 2 students from each of Naperville’s 4 high schools, with the clubs paying half the cost. All 8 slots were vacant as of their presentation.   Chuck’s two sons and wife are going with him.
